The 24th International AIDS Conference is scheduled to take place between 29 July – 2 August in Montréal, Canada, and virtually. Here is everything you need to know to get ready!
Pre-conference Meetings
AIDS 2022 pre-conferences will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, 27 and 28 July, and will be hosted in person at the Palais des Congres de Montreal, Canada, as well as virtually. Read more pre-conference information.
Pre-conference meetings are open to all registered delegates. In-person attendance is defined by the room capacity of the selected package. In addition, an unlimited number of registered virtual delegates can attend the pre-conference meetings. For those who wish to attend only pre-conferences and not the main conference, pre-conference passes will be available for purchase on the registration page.

Global Village and Youth Programme
A gathering place where communities from around the world meet to share their experiences and learn about HIV …
That’s the idea behind the Global Village. This is where communities can demonstrate the application of science and quality leadership and conference delegates and the general public can witness how science translates into community action and intervention.

Positive Lounge
The lounge is located on site at the Palais de Congrés de Montréal on Level 7 in Room 720.
Positive Lounge opening hours:
- Friday, 29 July 10:30 – 18:30
- Saturday, 30 July – Monday 1 August 08:30 – 18:30
- Tuesday, 2 August 08:30 – 15:30
The Positive Lounge is a dedicated space for delegates living with and affected by HIV from across the globe. This is where people can recharge, refresh, relax and reconnect in a nurturing environment.
The Positive Lounge is designed to facilitate and support dialogue and discussion for people living with HIV. The aim is to reflect the needs and desires of a diverse group of delegates, providing a balance between quiet relaxation and daily activities informed by people living with HIV.

Harm Reduction and Medical Services
Harm reduction and medical services will be available at AIDS 2022, the 24th International AIDS Conference, in Montreal, Canada, from 29 July to 2 August 2022. The following services are available at the Palais de Congrés:
Medical staff (Nurse (medical assistance)) will be available from 29 July to 2 August at the following locations:
- Infirmary (Mezzanine 3, accessible from the back of Viger Hall, Level 2)
- First aid (Level 2, Global Village)
Safe waste disposal (sharp boxes) in the following locations:
- All public bathrooms on Level 1
- Infirmary (Mezzanine 3, accessible from the back of Viger Hall, Level 2)
- First aid (Level 2, Global Village)
Mobile supervised injection site unit, run by L’Anonyme.
- Available on Friday, 29 July, between 17:00 and 18:00, parked on Level 1 at place Jean-Paul-Riopelle.

Information on the following services will be readily available throughout the Palais de Congrés (including within the Infirmary, First aid and Positive Lounge):
- Medical services and treatment centres for HIV and sexual health
- Medical facilities and services for people who use drugs
- The use of drugs while in Montreal
- Access to prescriptions (methadone or suboxone) or opioid agonist therapy while in Montreal
In line with national policy in Canada, all ambulances and emergency rooms in Montreal’s hospitals are equipped with naloxone. If someone overdoses on opiates, physicians on duty in ambulances and emergency rooms can administer naloxone. In Canada, medical assistance can be used without fear of persecution.
Please be aware that Canada is currently facing a drug toxicity and overdose crisis. Naloxone kits are available for free. Please refer to the AIDS 2022 Harm reduction and medical services guide for Montreal for more information.
Community Activist Liaisons
The conference will provide support for dialogue and participation through a team of Community Activist Liaisons (CALs) who will provide advice and assistance before and during the conference, in accordance with the IAS principles and values of conference participation.

The CAL Office on Level 2, Room 210 (D) is next to the Global Village. Delegates wishing to avail of this space must book with Liesl and/or Paul. Facilities include:

- Accessibility by escalator and lifts
There is also an Activism space beside the CAL Office, Level 2, Room 210. Facilities include:
- 20 – 30 people, basic tables and chairs
- Wi-Fi, electricity points
- Accessibility by escalator and lifts
- Please note: IT equipment is not provided in this space however delegates can bring their own tablets/ computers if required
Access to Activism space:
- All delegates have access to the space – there is no special pass required.
- Delegates can book the room on-site and/or contact the CALs by phone or email.
- To avoid an overflow of people in the room, the CALs will organize the room booking through a sign-up sheet on the wall of the space.
- In case of double bookings, the CALs will mediate.

COVID-19 and Immigration
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions on travel to Canada are currently in place. As a first step, delegates need to find out if they are eligible to travel to Canada.
Foreign visitors are allowed to enter Canada if they:
- Have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines (full vaccination is also required for visitors who have recovered from COVID-19). Travelers arriving to Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, may be randomly selected for arrival testing at their costs, but are not required to quarantine while awaiting their test results.
- As of 1 April 2022, fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need to provide a pre-entry COVID-19 test result.
- Have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

- All registrations for AIDS 2022 must be submitted through the online registration form.
- Group registration is applicable for 5 or more persons.
- Media registration is free for qualified individuals attending AIDS 2022 as journalists, photographers, videographers and community educators.
