Anti-oppression and Health Equity

This year there will be three health-related United Nations (UN) High-level meetings (HLMs) focused on tuberculosis (TB), pandemic preparedness prevention and response (PPPR), and universal health coverage (UHC).

GATE collaborated with STOPAIDS, Results UK, WACI Health, Kampala Initiative, INPUD, GNP+, and ICW on a joint briefing – Anti-Oppression and Health Equality – which addresses discrimination, punitive laws, and other social determinants of health.

Inequality and pandemics: the central role of Trans and Gender Diverse Community-led organizations in combating current and future health threats

GATE Executive Director, Erika Castellanos, has been appointed as a member of the newly formed Global Council on Inequality, AIDS, and Pandemics. Internationally, there is increasing awareness that inequality is a driver of global pandemics. Community-led organizations must be at the center of health interventions and human rights advocacy to effectively combat current and future health threats.

GATE Statement & Call for Application on World Aids Day 2018

1 December 2018 is the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day. As a key population, trans and gender diverse people are still 13 times more likely to be living with HIV than the general population. Today, GATE opens the call to join our International Working Group on Trans Masculine People and HIV.

Joint Statement for Depathologization and TDoR 2018

In 2018, trans and gender diverse activists will come together twice in the space of 1 month to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20) and to call for another International Day of Action for Trans Depathologization (October 21). This concurrence speaks loudly and clearly about the past, present and future of our communities and movements.

AIDS 2018 – GATE Activities & Trans Networking Zone

The World AIDS Conference 2018 is being held in Amsterdam from 23-28 July, with pre-conferences on 21-22 July.
GATE is participating in several pre-conferences and numerous sessions during the main conference, as well as co-hosting the Trans Networking Zone with IRGT – A Network of Trans Women and HIV.
