HIV

Trans and gender diverse and intersex people are still disproportionately affected by HIV worldwide; however, our access to information, to resources and to decision-making continues to be extremely limited. GATE engages in the international HIV response by challenging this historic exclusion and creating new opportunities for meaningful participation.

We do this through:

  • Engaging with international HIV decision-making mechanisms.
  • Facilitating trans, gender diverse and intersex activists’ participation in key events (e.g., International AIDS Conferences).
  • Partnering with key population networks (e.g., IRGT, NSWP, MPACT, INPUD).
  • Training donors, allies, official institutions and other stakeholders on trans, gender diverse and intersex issues.
  • Organizing and facilitating meetings, trainings and working groups. to empower trans activists, networks and organizations to advocate for their inclusion in the HIV response at regional, national and global levels.
  • Advocating for the diversification of trans identities in the International HIV response.
  • Advocating for disaggregated data collection and analysis.

Trans Men & HIV

GATE is implementing a global project on trans men and HIV, focused on strengthening and generating knowledge to further their engagement in the international HIV response. Currently, there is very little awareness or inclusion of trans men in HIV platforms and this community is mostly ignored in HIV research data, all of which GATE intends to address with this new project.
