The painting “Clitopenis” consists of a series of works that composed the artist’s final course work at the State University of Campinas. The course conclusion work was an investigation on the sexuality of transsexual and intersex bodies, from a gender and sexuality perspective based on the books by author Paul Preciado. The painting in question depicts an illusory ambiguous genitalia, as it depicts semen coming out of the end of the genitalia, which we know is not the case with ambiguous genitalia of this nature. Therefore, the work also brings an ode to the multiple possibilities of genitalia, beyond the binary, cisgender and endosex idea of sexuality. The work also brings up questions that evoke the countersexuality proposed by author Paul Preciado, in which new genitalia and ways of experiencing sexuality are possible through biohacking, which is already done naturally in intersex bodies.
