What is the Global AIDS Strategy?
GATE is holding consultations with trans and gender diverse communities to inform the development of the UNAIDS 2026-2031 Global AIDS Strategy. The new strategy will aim to refocus global efforts for the future of the AIDS response: to end inequalities, end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 and sustain the HIV response after 2030.
The Global AIDS Strategy is part of an accountability system that provides a vision to unite and inspire:
- Governments and National AIDS Programs a powerful guide evidence-driven impactful programming that protects lives, sustains progress and delivers real results
- Civil society and community activists: a catalyst for bold advocacy, amplifying voices, demanding justice & ensuring no one is left behind, especially the most marginalized
- Partners and donors who want a blueprint for investing in innovative, game-changing solutions that accelerate the fight against AIDS and create lasting impact.
- Teachers, parents, journalists (everyday people). It should be clear, easy to read and understand and make them feel part of a global movement.
What are the themes?
The trans and gender diverse community consultations will focus on two interconnected themes that are vital to ensuring access to HIV treatment and prevention services for our community members across global regions:
- Ending stigma and discrimination and upholding human rights and gender equality in the HIV response
- Ensuring community leadership in the HIV response
