From June 17 to 22, 23 trans activists from 19 countries will meet in Geneva for Trans Advocacy Week 2018. This ground-breaking initiative has been organized by APTN, GATE, ILGARFSL and TGEU

During an intense week in Geneva, trans activists will participate in the Open Consultation called by the Independent Expert on SOGI, meet with different UN agencies, Special Rapporteurs, Missions and donors, and attend plenary sessions at the Human Rights Council. The delegation will also coordinate and participate in two side events, on trans issues within the gender framework and on the Yogyakarta Principles Plus 10 and their relevance to achieve trans human rights worldwide.

In spite of the gross human rights violations faced by trans people around the world, trans issues have historically occupied a relegated place in the LGTB agenda at the UN, a situation aggravated by the structural scarcity of resources affecting trans movements in all regions and the increased scrutiny and obstacles experienced by trans people attempting to access the space. Once again, this global initiative has been made possible by trans-led, collective and collaborative work.

Everyone is invited to join! Meet us in Geneva, or follow us through UN streaming and/or social media. Invitations to specific events will be posted separately.
