Taking Responsibility for Health in a Fragmenting World is this year theme for the World Health Summit taking place from 12 to 14 October in Berlin and online.
Our Executive Director, Erika Castellanos, will be speaking at a session called Shaping the Future of UNAIDS in the Context of UN80: Leveraging UNAIDS’ Experience to Strengthen Global and Countries’ HIV Responses and Multilateral Reform bringing trans and gender diverse voices and experiences to the stage.
This session will explore how the outcomes of the recent UNAIDS High-Level Panel process – in which Erika has co-chaired – are being operationalized to strengthen UNAIDS’ country-level impact, with a focus on governance, financing, and integration within the broader UN system. It will also examine what the implications for the global AIDS response may be. The session will bring together donors, policymakers, civil society representatives and UNAIDS leadership to examine:
• How the restructured UNAIDS model is enabling more effective, country-driven HIV responses including lessons from countries where UNAIDS has already aligned with broader UN reform efforts
• Strategies for ensuring long-term financial sustainability of the HIV response
• Implications for the global HIV response
• Opportunities to leverage UNAIDS’ transformation to inform broader multilateral reform, including within the UN80 Initiative
This session aims to generate actionable insights on how global health institutions can adapt to better serve countries through 2030 and beyond particularly within the context of the UN80 initiative.
