Community-led organizations play a critical role in the HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria responses, particularly in reaching populations that experience stigma, discrimination, criminalization and other barriers to formal health services. Yet the barriers to accessing funding are increasing.
Developed by GATE in partnership with the Communities Delegation to the Board of the Global Fund, these resources provide the evidence needed to secure direct funding for community-led organizations under the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 and beyond.
Why are these resources important?
Adequate resources enable community-led organizations and networks to provide prevention, treatment, and care, sustain trusted service-delivery models, and uphold human rights- based and gender-responsive approaches where barriers to mainstream services persist.
Financing Community-Led Impact is a report that connects case studies, financing analysis and a practical framework for direct investment, contributing to a wider body of community-led evidence, advocacy and action. It highlights changes that can help ensure community-led organizations – and the responses they are uniquely placed to deliver – are properly resourced, visible and sustained.
Community Evidence for Direct Funding is a report that draws on findings from a review of lessons learned from Grant Cycle 7 and consultations with community experts. The report maps the needs and barriers faced by communities, documents evidence to support direct funding, and presents recommendations for the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 and beyond.
Putting Communities at the Center of Global Fund Set-Asides – an advocacy brief for donors to increase the impact of funding through direct contracting and catalytic funding for community-led networks and organizations in Grant Cycle 8.
Sustaining Community-led responses through Global Fund Transition – an advocacy brief for the Global Fund Secretariat, proposing an urgent pilot of a differentiated model in which regional or global community-led platforms administer country-level grants for key population-led responses across HIV, TB and malaria, to accelerate transition and protect what matters.
