In every country with available data, trans and gender diverse populations are among the most at-risk groups for HIV. In 2019, global HIV prevalence among trans and gender diverse people was approximately 13 times higher than among cisgender adults. GATE and our partners recognize the need for trans activists and organizations to build their capacity in community-led monitoring of the implementation, including expenditures, of HIV programming at country level.

This community-generated virtual training and guide aims to build the capacity of trans organizations and activists to act as watchdogs in the implementation of national HIV responses – monitoring the implementation and expenditures of HIV programming at national levels. In this training, you will build knowledge and practical skills to act as watchdogs, discover examples and case studies of effective practice, examine an overview of the key principles of HIV programmatic monitoring, and discover what steps can be taken as actions when drafting budgets and workplans.

This is an open-access course designed to help trans and gender diverse activists to act as watchdogs in the implementation of national HIV responses.

Here is an overview of the five key areas that you will explore in this training:

  • What is accountability and community-led monitoring?
  • Understanding the Global Fund and USAID programming cycles
  • Monitoring (and funding) for accountability and community-led monitoring
  • Tools for accountability and community-led monitoring
  • Action plans for developing ideas and steps for accountability and community-led monitoring

These short video sessions have been carefully designed for you to share with members of your organization. They are easy to follow to ensure accessibility for everyone.
