GATE and amfAR will bring together activists, researchers, and policymakers for a practical discussion of how to increase trans inclusion in national HIV planning processes.
As one of the Civil Society Partners on the AIDS 2022 Conference Organizing Committee, GATE has compiled a calendar of sessions taking place during the pre-conferences and Conference that are relevant to trans and gender diverse communities. This calendar includes sessions in which trans and gender diverse speakers (including 2 Spirit people) are presenting, and sessions that focus on trans and gender diverse communities and related research.
In the Global Village at AIDS 2022, GATE and IRGT in partnership with RED Trans Peru and TGEU are hosting a Trans Networking Zone for trans and gender diverse people and their allies. TRANSport: A TRANS and Gender Diverse Community Re-Engagement Hub aims to provide a space where trans and gender diverse activists, including youth and those living with or affected by HIV, and allies can explore challenges and best practices regarding the needs and priorities of trans and gender diverse people.
While the issues that transfeminine people living with HIV and AIDS face have become gradually more visible, transmasculine people still constitute a largely invisible and unheard group within the global response. It is necessary to discuss why it is vital to amplify the scope of scientific research and participation of activists from different backgrounds at the AIDS 2022 Conference.
