Every year, Trans Advocacy Week brings trans activists from around the world to engage in one of the most significant international forums: the United Nations. This event is an opportunity to raise awareness of the barriers and discrimination faced by trans and gender diverse people and to promote equality, acceptance, and understanding.
On 20 November, we pause to mark Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) and raise awareness about violence against trans and gender diverse people. This year, the data highlights 350 reported murders of trans people that occurred globally between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024.
In January 2024, GATE faced a wave of attacks from media and high-ranking public officials that led us to engage with a crisis communications expert. Our staff engaged in one-on-one training and the learnings were developed into a toolkit for responding to anti-gender extremism.
