GATE feels empowered and humbled to present our piece, “Whole, not broken: A journey towards trans and gender diverse health equity,” at the 78th World Health Assembly.

Being part of “A Seat At The Table” was a moment to understand the realities of our trans and gender diverse communities and reimagine a system where everyone has a voice in their care.

Whole, Not Broken: A Journey Towards Trans and Gender Diverse Health Equity

Whole, Not Broken honors the lived experiences of trans and gender diverse communities in health systems, centering our voices and experiences at the heart of care. Historically, our communities have faced systemic exclusion, limiting access to dignifying and affirming healthcare. This piece reflects those battles, our resilience, and our collective aspirations for equity.

At its center, a repaired plate inspired by kintsugi symbolizes the fractures caused by healthcare systems, with glittering seams testifying to our resilience in healing and piecing ourselves back together. The tablecloth stands as a banner for visibility. The vase illustrates that trans health equity is built layer by layer, with essential components such as self-determination and holistic care, requiring sustained efforts to form a strong foundation. The recipe cards offer a roadmap for health justice – a recipe we can only create together. Each element invites reflection on what true care looks like when it is affirming, accessible, and shaped by those who need it most. Together, they weave a collective path toward health equity.

People-centered care means care shaped by and for people in all their complexity. Our table is not symbolic alone; it is an invitation. Sit with us, listen, and act.

We are whole, not broken.
